While the dental problems would not be neglected by the people as they trouble a lot they either go with temporary fixes to immediately address the problem or else go for permanent fix. Either way the doctor would need an assistant who can manage several activities on a whole. Also with the minimal work per patient that you have to do these can be considered as the decent jobs. All that you have to do is to sit in the chair beside the patient and then hold the instruments and tools that are given by the doctor as and when he does the treatment to the patient. Again in the assistant job there would be two categories one which is medical assistant job the other is clerical assistant job.
The clerical assistant would take care of fixing the appointments and following up on them until the patient is served or else he cancels the appointment by self as with some personal urgency at home. The clerical assistant would also maintain the payments and receipts to be issued for the patient. The medical assistant would rather help the doctor in each and every treatment he does in providing the tools to doing small cleaning work for the patient’s teeth. Either type will also be assigned with the maintenance of the patient’s records so that the doctor would go through them so that he will not miss even a single fact about the treatment done so far.
While the clerical assistant job would not need any particular skill sets except for few management skills the medical assistant should definitely attend the courses so that they get the proficiency in treating the patient. The courses for medical assistant can be either short term with the required dedication from the assistant for just one year. Also when the person gets experience as with the job he can apply for a special post called the expanded duty dental assistant. This post would need the person with higher skill sets should it select to occupy the seat.
Also the assistants should always work under the licensed dentist so that they do not encounter any problems in future with respect to learning and with respect to working. All the restorative tasks can be done by the EDDA under due surveillance of the doctor. This EDD assistant would be able to perform the simplest work to the most complex work with removing the sutures, placing temporary restorations and the making teeth impressions etc which would all need some understanding of the structure of the mouth in general and in specific to the individual.
Though the assistant would do to the best of what he has learned it should definitely be validated by the doctor so that no issues would crop up again with the patient. While the training provides enough skills working under a doctor would also increase the fame for the person. Working as dentists assistant is assumed to increase the social status as is assumed by some people. So making the decision of becoming either the medical assistant or the clerical assistant is with you.
